MVC Update · March 12th

by Pastor Pete on March 12, 2020

MVC Family,

Yesterday Washington State Governor Jay Inslee announced that gatherings of 250 people or more are prohibited until the end of March. Seattle & King County Health Officer Dr. Jeff Duchin also issued an order that public events with fewer than 250 attendees are prohibited, unless event organizers can abide by strict guidelines to help slow the spread of coronavirus.

In accordance with this directive and out of continued care for our church family and community, all public services and events on campus are canceled through March 31st.
We will hold services online for the next three Sundays. Besides moving to online streaming of the worship service, here are other actions our staff is taking in response to this unprecedented crisis:

  • We will continue to monitor the situation and update you regularly via email, text and website.
  • Our Deacons and Stephen Ministers will do wellness phone call check-ins with all of our seniors and covenant partners at high risk.
  • Children's Ministry and RISE Youth Ministry are preparing online ministries.
  • If the Tahoma School District closes, then the MV Christian Preschool will also close.
  • We have canceled the Mexico Mission Trip.
  • The church office will remain open.

Let us continue to "be the church" even while not physically coming together. Beloved, the coronavirus cannot stop the Church of Jesus Christ! This is our opportunity to live out our faith the likes of which we've never experienced: to pray like never before, to love our neighbors in profound ways, to boldly share our faith and invite friends into right relationship with the Lord, our God.

I am so proud of our MVC and Preschool Staff who are putting in 110% of their energy and creativity to advance the mission and ministry of Maple Valley Church. Also, thank you to the whole congregation for your generous financial and prayerful support.

In times like this, the world is looking at how the Church will respond and how you will respond personally as a believer. 1 John 5:4 says "everyone who has been born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world - our faith." May the Lord bless you and keep you safe, may He protect our community, guide our national, state and local leaders, and by the power we pray in Jesus' name, may this virus pass quickly. We pray for all who have lost loved ones to this virus, all who are sickened and in hospital or quarantine, and all who are deeply affected in other ways.

We look forward to joining together online this weekend. Rob and the worship team will lead us in worship and David has a power-packed and timely message in our Revelation series.

Revelation 1:4 "Grace to you and peace from him who is and who was and who is to come..."

May the blessing of God the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit guard and protect us and strengthen us.

Following the Lamb wherever He Goes (Rev 14:4),
Pastor Pete
